If the driver is already installed on your system, updating (overwrite-installing) may fix various issues, add new functions, or just upgrade to the available version. While, yes, being able to use an Xbox controller is nice, me personally, I prefer the security benefits of only running signed kexts, especially as I can use a PS3 controller without any additional drivers and with the additional benefit of having a way better digital pad for running old emulated games - no mushy diagonal heavy crap.
